Kiwanis Park - North Improvements
About the project
The City of London is currently working on improvement plans to Kiwanis Park - North, located at 612 Hale Street.
As previously noted in June 2024, the existing tennis courts are in poor condition and cannot be replaced in the current location due to provincially regulated archaeological considerations in the area. Additionally, the current location does not meet today’s requirements for proper spacing from private property lines. As a result, the existing tennis courts will be removed and restored with native plant material.
Public Feedback
In the summer of 2024, there was an opportunity for the community to provide feedback as to what sports court should be constructed east of the existing washroom building. The City received very positive feedback and would like to thank all who participated in the online survey.
Based on public input, the following will be constructed east of the existing washroom building, subject to archaeology and regulatory approvals:
- Two pickleball courts
- One half basketball court
- Seating area
- Tree planting
In addition to the work above, future improvements to the existing spray pad and washroom building will occur. A concept map of the proposed enhancements is below. Please note that with the removal of the existing tennis courts in Kiwanis Park - North, the City will be improving and constructing new tennis courts in the surrounding area.
Project Timeline
Construction of the new pickleball courts and half basketball court will occur in 2025. Improvements to the spray pad and washroom building is tentatively planned to start in 2026 and the City will mail further information regarding the upgrades once scope and timing of that project is confirmed.
Accessibility
Proposed pathways are considered a ‘Recreational Trail’ under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005, and would meet all technical requirements for accessibility including minimum width, maximum slope, and head clearance space. As part of this project, the City of London is inviting feedback from residents with various disabilities on their specific needs regarding recreational trails and outdoor play spaces.
